Village shop – update 30th March 2020

Dear all,

We hope you are all staying safe and well. The shop has settled into a little more of a routine in its new format over the last week and we have a dedicated team of staff and volunteers working to maintain the running of the shop and to fulfil orders. Please see the information below regarding a reminder of the service and opening hours.

Our website should be up and running shortly and so we will post regular news regarding products and deliveries.

Hughenden Valley Community Shop – Home Delivery Hub
We are open for service between 11am and 3pm – 01494 568653. See below for details:

Main Service – home deliveries
Simply phone between 11am and 3pm – we will take your shopping list and when it is packed and ready, we will call you to take card payment over the phone. Your shopping will then be delivered a short while later when the next team of delivery volunteers arrive. (Delivery volunteers will knock/ring to make you aware of the delivery and leave your shopping on the doorstep).

Phone orders for collection later
Phone between 11am and 3pm – we will take your shopping list and when packed and ready we will call you back to take card payment. You will then be able to collect your shopping anytime up until 4pm that day. Please just knock at the door, step back and wait for your bag to be placed outside the door.

Emergency/Impromptu visits to the shop
Whilst, we can accept urgent/impromptu visits to the shop between 11am and 3pm, we would like to keep these to a minimum if possible. (This is for the safety of our staff and volunteers in the shop, as it is easier to manage the flow and social distancing between the staff and the non-sharing of payment equipment).

For key workers such as teachers still teaching in schools, emergency service and healthcare workers, we understand that you will probably not be able to make phone calls during your day, so we are happy for you to drop off shopping lists in a designated box outside the shop. We will then pack the order and deliver it for you. (Please leave your name, address and telephone number, and the time when we can call you for payment).

(For the safety of our volunteers and staff, all shop activities are being broken down into specific, separate time frames to ensure that staff are able to safely social distance from each other. Therefore, you may see staff in the shop between from 8 until 11 am but they will be receiving early bread and newspaper deliveries, receiving cash and carry and other deliveries, sorting stock and carrying out essential hygiene and housekeeping tasks only).

We will continue to send out regular communication by email so if you know anyone who would like to be added to the email list, please ask them to email me (Louise) at shopmanager@valleyshop.org

Please also tell any of your family, about the home delivery service.

Take care and hope you all stay safe.
Best regards,
Louise

Council urges – ‘support your local food banks’

Council urges – ‘support your local food banks’

Buckinghamshire Council Leader Martin Tett is urging residents to support their local food banks during this difficult time by remembering to buy a couple of extras when supermarket shopping.

He said; “Local food banks need our help more than ever right now, as they come under pressure due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. Donations are reportedly down at several food banks, while everyone is, understandably, worried about having enough supplies.

“The Council is working with local partners and community groups to encourage people to donate, but also to possibly volunteer. While you’re doing your shopping don’t forget to get something extra to keep someone in need going.”

What’s needed?
Donations to food banks will be needed more than ever in coming weeks and months. Non-perishable household essentials are always needed, such as:

toilet roll
toiletries
dry pasta
tins
jars
long life juice or UHT milk

How can you help?
The best place to donate right now is at supermarket drop-off points. By donating while you do your regular essentials shop, you can still help out while limiting your contact with others during this phase of social distancing.

To find up-to-date information on the specific needs of your local food banks you can check their websites and social media pages – a list of which can be seen below.

Our Community Hub page has been set up so that anyone who wants to help during this time can be matched with areas where there is need. Visit buckinghamshire.gov.uk/coronavirus for more information

Ask Buckinghamshire Council your questions on Coronavirus

PR 10984

Ask Buckinghamshire Council your questions on Coronavirus

From Monday 23 March, Buckinghamshire Council will be giving regular video updates to residents and answering their questions on everything from how we are fighting Coronavirus locally, what you can do to stay safe and how you can get involved in helping others.

Residents are encouraged to send in their questions which will be answered by the Leader of the Council, Martin Tett, Chief Executive, Rachael Shimmin and others working to protect, support and bring together the community against the virus.

Leader of the Shadow Executive creating the new Buckinghamshire Council, Martin Tett said: “Buckinghamshire is a fantastic place, with a great voluntary sector and enormous community spirit. I am already so proud of the way people are coming together to help each other and particularly look after the most vulnerable in every community.

“It’s so important now, more than ever, that we talk to each other. We want to share what we are doing along with our partners, groups and communities across Buckinghamshire to fight Coronavirus. There’s a lot of information out there, some of it ‘fake news’, so we want to give residents a trusted place to come for local updates and answers to their questions.

“We’ll invite officers from across the council, as well as representatives from our partners and organisations, to join us to talk about what we are all doing together. With us on Monday will be Neil Macdonald, Chief Executive Officer of the Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust”.

The vlogs will be shared in the afternoon on the Buckinghamshire Council website www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/coronavirus as well as all social media channels.

Send your questions to askthecouncil@buckinghamshire.gov.uk or tweet and post them to us @BucksCouncil using #askBucksCouncil.
